Here’s a thought: Shippers don’t deserve anything from a writer. 

Just because you ship something popular doesn’t mean you are owed one by the writer. I guarantee there are just as many if not more people who prefer a different ship or don’t like yours at all. They’re not any less deserving than you just because the majority’s opinion is more split. 

You equally deserve nothing. It’s the writer’s story, their characters and unless it’s genre is romance, romantic relationships probably aren’t that important. Shipping is a fun thing for consumers to do on the side. It has nothing to do with what ‘should’ happen because it doesn’t fucking matter.

However when fans fight with each other and harass writers with demands and even threats about their ships becoming canon, it’s no longer fun. And what you end up with is some forced, out of character bullshit where the actual plot ends up getting sacrificed for some romance that could be outdone in a hundred fics that already exist. 

Fans deserve a coherent plot with characters that stay consistent within their development and non-discriminatory content unless it’s being used by the villains or something. That’s it. Please shut up and stop pushing writers to destroy their own work, it’s so boring and disappointing for the rest of us.
