Imagine being a woman who spends her entire life training, dedicating her body and mind, to become one of the greatest dancers in New York, in one of the most famous dance company’s on earth. Then imagine the pride you must feel as a woman who’s made it this far. Then imagine on top of all of this, you’re a black woman who’s done all that, AND overcome all of the shit black women have to go through as performers in any entertainment industry. Now, that you’re here, you’re a fucking ROCKETTE, and your boss tells you you have to perform in the inauguration of a man who, very vocally, has nothing but hate, misogyny, and objectification for women. Nothing but contempt and racism for WOC. He hates you and everything you are. He sees you as a thing to be conquered, used, and thrown away. He wants you put in your place. You have to use your lifelong ambitions to help his supporters celebrate his governance over you, despite your protests. Everything you’ve overcome to celebrate someone who would have you be nothing. It’s a fucking slap in the face.
