I would encourage this.

In a class with a notoriously difficult professor and MASSIVE volumes of subject matter, I started a study guide in a google doc. Everyone who expressed interest was assigned a section of reading, a lecture, or a film to contribute notes for.  Once you submitted your notes to me, you were granted access to the doc. I recommend this method to anyone.
