also there's no known proof that bugs experience pain so it's unlikely those ants suffered
but they're used to study the formation of ant colonies not just for the aesthetic
Even if they did feel pain the aluminum would kill ants before they even felt it
i've watched some of these videos and the casts turn out really cool!
Plus the description of that video explains that that's an invasive colony of ants that's harmful to the environment
