This reminds me of a party I went to last year. I was standing with some friends, chatting, and someone said something that indirectly implied that sexism exists. Some trivial recounting of the basic facts of daily life for most women. Something so mild, so uncontroversial, so mundane that I don’t even remember what it was.

Suddenly, this man standing on the outskirts of our conversational circle piped up with “actually, I think men are more discriminated against than women these days.”

 All conversation died.

I turned to look at him and he had this smug, insufferable grin on his face, relishing this moment, expecting us to waste our time and energy refuting this ridiculous thing he had just said.

The Devil’s Advocate was among us.

And, in my mind, I saw the next 15+ minutes playing out. The parade of facts and statistics in a vain attempt to defend ourselves, our gender, and to prove that misogyny is real. The glib, snide denials from some shithead who is getting off on our pain and frustration. The Gish Gallop of bullshit that would take a whole evening to properly dismantle. It was depressing and overwhelming. I hated it. I had to kill it before it began.

So I looked him dead in the eye and I said “OK,“ shrugged, and just walked away.

Nothing I have ever said to another human being has ever been so crushing. As I walked away, I watched the smug grin vanish and confusion and anxiety set in. The rest of the group turned their backs to him and carried on as if he had never spoken – as if he was invisible. He was still staring at me when I walked over to another friend and told her what he had said. I pointed him out for her and made direct eye contact with him while we both laughed.

tl;dr: Don’t feed the troll. Let it perish, cold and hungry, in the wasteland of your indifference. It is weak and you are strong. Live your best life.

Unpopular Opinion:

Tumblr’s “walking on eggshells” and “one strike, you’re out” mentality is really really immature.

Reblog if ya agree.

Another unpopular opinion:

The “You can apologize, beg for forgiveness, and change your ways all you want but it won’t change a thing cause you’re still horrible vile trash that deserves to die a fiery death” mentality is really harmful, scary, disgusting, and will probably get someone killed, be it by someone else’s hand or their own

yet another unpopular opinion: the ‘unproblematic fav’ mentality is really bad because you’re putting an individual up on a pedestal and treating them like a deity of sorts and forgetting that they too are human beings and make mistakes.

Another unpopular opinion: Not every mistake is the Worst Thing Ever.  Sometimes people make small mistakes, and sometimes ignorance is a small mistake, and they do not need to grovel and beg and apologize perfectly because in the scheme of things it was a small mistake that didn’t even seriously hurt anyone, outside of tumblr’s performative moral outrage being offended.

One more unpopular opinion: Forgivness is actually a good thing and not a moral crime.

horrorgay:

All humans are weak because we will all fall for The Classical Fan Art Pose. I like to call it the “Character nonchalantly wiping blood away from their mouth/nose with the back of their hand, murderous intent in their eyes”. I would go as far as to say it is indisputably the hottest pose you could draw someone in. In this essay I will-

by the way, if you haven’t read toby fox’s message on deltarune from his twitter, you probably should here. a summary:

  • deltarune is a different universe/timeline/world, the undertale world and ending are just as you left them. it’s NOT a sequel or prequel
  • deltarune chapter 1 is a demo of a project toby wanted to start, but it’s too big of a task to do alone like undertale. he’s trying to assemble a team but is unsure of how many years it could take to get the game done
  • the game would be released eventually (hopefully) as one full package of chapters to purchase. no preorders, no kickstarter.
  • as of right now, there is “0%” progress on the full game besides the demo we got, but this is in terms of the actual game and programming/art. the story itself is completely done and so are some songs
  • another tweet shows he’s been working on ideas for deltarune since 2012!
  • his last words that i’m going to directly quote because i can’t do them justice myself: “By the way, I was really worried at first about making this. The expectations for my next work would be really high, so high that I knew that no matter what I did, I felt like people would be underwhelmed. If you played “UNDERTALE,” I don’t think I can make anything that makes you feel “that way” again. However, it’s possible I can make something else. It’s just something simple but maybe you’ll like it. See you in ?? years… OK? Don’t forget.”
