Basically it’s like that bug that would crash iPhones a while back; the person messages you a character that can’t be read by the system, which crashes your console. Warning to all my fellow PS4 users! This is a real threat!
EDIT: Looks like you don’t have to do a factory reset to fix it, just a database rebuild. Here’s the stickied reddit post on r/ps4 that has the solution step by step! Spread the word!

With the bear thing it depends on the TYPE of bear. I can’t remember which is which, but between black bears and grizzlies there’s one you play dead for because they bury their food and eat it later, and the other type eats their prey fresh after a kill so you don’t play dead for that type.
