acg-obsession:

Well today I’m gonna talk about working as an animator in Japan.

It’s quite heart-aching but I really hope to share these information with you guys.

Recently P.A WORKS (The animation studio who made Shirobako or Angel Beats or Charlotte) posted about the conditions to become an animator, I’ll pick some important point:

  • For the first two months, the company will provide you some studies so that you knew how company works with their animation
  • And from that onward, for the first year, you must draw 350 pieces of storyboard per month persistently. From second year onward, you must increase to 500 pieces per month.

If you couldn’t handle that, you are advised to leave your job.

So let’s just do a simple calculation on how much a new animator can earn.

We assume that a new animator works for 24 days per month and 12 hours per day, without MC or any leaves.

If he/she is required to draw 350 pieces, he/she will need to draw 15 pieces per day, meaning he/she will have to finish a piece in 50 minutes.

If he/she is required to draw 500 pieces, he/she will need to draw 21 pieces per day, meaning he/she will have to finish a piece in 30 minutes.

Japanese animator are payed according to the total number of storyboard they drew, and they earned

220~240 yen per piece, let’s go with 300 yen to simplify the calculation

350 pieces per month= 105k yen per month (approximately 980 usd)

500 pieces per month=150k yen per month

(approximately 1400 usd)

For a fresh graduate in Japan, their basic salary is at least 200k yen per month, but for a new animator, they can only earn approximately 120k per month.

And you guys know how expensive is to live in Japan.

I just want to let you guys know how overwork and underpaid is as an animator in Japan. Let’s just give all those hardworking animators an applause for creating so many fabulous animation.

my friend called me on the phone from the library to tell me he’d been chased by a mountain lion and he thought he might have vomited up blood and I was in the middle of scrubbing my car and having a heat stroke god my life keeps getting fucking weirder

mind you this is my friend who is the total chronic disaster who got into that knife fight in the middle school parking lot so I’m used to giving him shitty advice but this summer since I don’t talk on the phone he texts me every other day with some new terrible strange twist that has happened in his life like “my girlfriend almost got kidnapped” “there are three centipedes in my bed!” “I almost got mugged again” like normally I would just go help him but I’m 4 hours away now and it’s like he forgets GXHRVGSHFV

your friend is a protagonist

this I’m aware of I’m his sidekick and the epitome of the nerd best friend archetype but still it is my civic duty to complain

!!!FAKE/SCAM PAYPAL EMAIL GOING AROUND!!!

Ok so I’m a little embarrassed to admit I actually fell for this one, even though I’m usually WAY better and seeing through these scams…but it happened to me so I’m gonna spread this around. I just finished changing my entire bank VISA numbers and passwords, and nothing was stolen from my account because I acted SO FAST once I noticed some red flags when looking back at the email shortly after.

Since I use paypal to get payed for my commission work, when I got this fake alert; I shrugged and went through with it like any other “UPDATED INFORMATION” sort of deal because I was distracted and only half paying attention at the time. Like a lot of people, I use paypal a lot and so much of it comes second nature. This warning is for anyone who sometimes half-pays attention to things or just misses things sometimes, even if 99% of the time they can tell what’s fake or isn’t. People make mistakes, shit happens. So anyways, here’s what it looks like when opened:

Obviously, there are a few give aways that spell out F-A-K-E here, but me being Dyslexic, the few spelling errors literally didn’t jump out to me AT ALL (thanks a lot neurodiversity + dyslexia) so to me it sounded legitimate enough to trust even for only one stupid second. It takes you to what looks PERFECTLY like the actual Paypal log in, like I literally saw NO difference. They looked the EXACT SAME!!!

I saw no difference from the unusual…until I saw the URL just a little too late. (this is the fake one:)

Ok, now I was feeling REALLY STUPID for not checking the URL first, but shit happens. I was distracted, and like I said it DOES sadly look pretty legit if you’re paying little attention or are going on auto pilot.

Compare that URL to the ACTUAL LEGIT paypal one:

Another thing that got me at first was that this was in my actual inbox, not a junk/spam folder. This thing is fooling filters somehow so once again, if you’re only paying half attention, it’s easy to be like “oh ok whatever this won’t take long.” So now let’s look at the emails senders.

Legitimate/Official:

FAKE/SCAM:

If you fall/fell for this one, don’t panic. (I FREAKED OUT when I first realized I fell for a fake email that just got all my VISA numbers, and that didn’t help at all.)

What you need to do is change ALL of your passwords ASAP, and cancel/change your card number ASAP. DON’T just change your passwords! There should be a phone number on the back of your card, call that number and explain that you need all numbers changed. As soon as all that’s taken care of, you should be fine. So this whole thing might not’ve been one of my brighter moments, but I had NO idea this was going around, so I figured I’d spread it around as much as possible! Be extra aware! Look out for anything that jumps out as unusual, especially if you actively use paypal.

Holy shit!!! 😱

“There are no trigger warnings in real life”

“The real world is cruel, get over it.”

My boyfriend is triggered by Christmas and Christmas music. We were in a restaurant, and Christmas music was playing, and he started panicking so he went outside for a cigarette. The manager of the restaurant overheard him saying he had to get out, and changed the music over for the rest of the time we were there. There are safe spaces in the real world. People are nicer than you think. And bullshit people who try to tell you to get over your triggers, ain’t shit.

Honestly “the world is cruel get over it” is pretty easily translated to “I’m a complete asshole who doesn’t want to be held responsible for my sh*tty behavior”
