I literally remember when this aired and something clicked in my head. He was putting to words what I kept seeing over and over in media without apology or explanation
disliking someone because of how they treat you and how they treat others is justified, but aiming that hate towards their unchangeable and physical appearance when their appearance isn’t the problem is immature, mean, and disrespectful
So I think it’s pretty obvious by now that the reception to season 7 has been less than… good. The fan base has been shattered. People are upset, angry, and abandoning this series in droves (I’ve lost over 50 followers as I write this, just from people no longer wanting anything to do with this show) and have been incredibly vocal as to the reason why.
They killed Adam.
After two weeks of receiving praise for the relationship that was revealed at San Diego Comic Con, fans discovered on Friday night that Adam’s existence would be short lived, further contributing to this popular “Bury Your Gays” trope.
And I’ve seen people confused at this outcry. They don’t understand why people are so upset at this tiny side character’s death. What’s the big deal, right? It’s war! There’s supposed to be casualties!
And to that kind of response I have to narrow my eyes and go:
“Oh…. maybe you understand the history of this.”
Because it is a history. A rich one. “Bury your gays” isn’t a trope in the same why that “Fake dating” is a trope. It’s not popular out of coincidence and I feel like many people are ignorant of that, which is FAIR! Because most voltron fans are young, most tumblr users are young, so I don’t expect you to be watching documentaries on LGBT+ cinema in between studying for your chemistry exams.
So that’s where I come in. Buckle in children as I take you on a journey on why the “Bury your gays” trope exists, and the harmful ramifications that it has had on the LGBT+ community since its inception.
Man I know emulators are technically considered piracy I guess, and I can see why it would be an issue with newer games (not that most emulators are advanced enough for that anyway), but I just… hhhhhh the way the video game industry operates in regards to old games is so fucking stupid. It’s like
Gamers: Hey, I’m really interested in this game you made a long time ago! Can I play it? Game companies: No. Gamers: But I’ll give you money! Game companies: We no longer manufacture, support, or distribute that game or the console it’s available on. There’s no way for you to buy it. Gamers: Well, what about this slightly-newer-but-still-outdated game that was never released in my region? Can I play that? I’ll give you money. Game companies: No. You’re only allowed to play games from your region. You can’t buy it from us. Gamers: So, you don’t provide any way for me to purchase these games from you, or to play them in any form? Game companies: Correct. We don’t care about these games anymore. They might as well not exist. Some guy on the internet: Hey, I found some old and foreign games that aren’t sold or available to play anywhere, so I fixed them up so everyone can play them now for free! Here you go! 🙂 Game companies: ABSOLUTELY FUCKING NOT. HOW DARE YOU STEAL OUR PROFITS. PLAY THE GAMES LEGALLY OR DIE. Gamers: But you just said there’s no way to play them- Game companies:FUCK YOU
I want cis lesbians to work on making a stronger support system for trans lesbians. Saying “no terfs” just ain’t enough, y’all.
Like, help a trans lesbian get a job. Invite her out to shit. Talk to her. Bring her around other lesbians and don’t make a big show of correcting someone who misgenders her. Offer a ride home at the end of the night so she doesn’t have to walk or bus alone. If you see a trans girl on the bus, sit next to her so some random, terrible dude doesn’t. Don’t invite people to a gathering that’d make her feel unsafe. Know your friends & girlfriend better. Talk to’em about the how and why of supporting trans lesbians. If they’re not on board, get them on board, and if that doesn’t work, it’s time to question the company you keep.
Make it so she feels that OF COURSE she belongs. That OF COURSE she’s supported.
Like idk, everything I just listed is stuff that… you just do for a friend. Y’all it ain’t that hard to treat a trans woman like, ya know, a friend.

Just a reminder if you’re against trans people you’re literally a pro-colonization, racist. You’re saying your rudimentary grasp on gender is somehow, more, or more real than the concepts of gender that indigenous peoples had before white colonists came over and eradicated those ways. Soooo…
This is true! In general, implications that western male-female binary is the “real” or “natural” gender construction is inherently flawed, and inherently racist. Some more examples of gender variation outside of Western cultures is the Bugi people of Indonesia (who recognize 5 different genders), and the Hijra of South Asia (who are a recognized 3rd gender). Many many similar examples and variations of these identities exist all across non-white societies.
