i have thought a lot about censorship and what is “appropriate”. not a lot of people know this, but lolita was written to show what we allow on our bookshelves: there being no swear words in it meant it was free from censorship. a book about child molestation was allowed because it didn’t explicitly use the word “fuck”. he wrote it to show we don’t really care about protecting children, and it ended up being seen as a romance.

someone once told me – actually, many people have – that lgbt content isn’t appropriate for children. any content. not just kissing. i’m drowned in questions: “won’t the parents have to explain it?” “kids shouldn’t be thinking about sex at this age, or do you think differently?” “what will the kids think?”

at six i saw disney movies. people kiss and get married. i didn’t ask “what does that mean.” i didn’t ask “are those people going to have sex?” i didn’t ask anything, because i was six, and no six year old thinks twice about these things. nobody ever “explained” being straight to me, it was a fact, and it existed, and i was fine with that. why would being gay require a thesis, i wonder.

someone once told me that the one of the reasons people hate lgbt individuals is because they can’t see us as anything but sexual. we’re not people, so much as sinners. that they don’t see love, they see sex. just sex. it’s perversion, not a matter of the heart. only of the body.

i think i was in my early twenties before i saw someone like me.

how old were you, though, before you saw violence? before you saw sexual assault on tv? i think something like that is only pg-13, and if it’s implied, they can get away with anything. i remember watching things and learning about blood, but knowing sex – sex was what was really wrong. sex was always rated r. sex was always kind of a bad word. i was told a lot that i wasn’t ready.

i had a dream last night that i made a site where people could ask any question they wanted about sex and get answered by a professional. it was shut down in moments because 15 year olds wanted to know if it should hurt, if “double-bagging” was a real thing, if this, if that. we shudder. don’t let the children know about that!

but at thirteen i had seen enough violence it no longer struck me. i couldn’t say “fuck” but i knew that if you break your femur, you can bleed out internally in under half an hour. in school i wasn’t allowed to write about loving girls because what would the administration think – but i could write about wanting to kill myself and people would say how lovely, how blistering.

i have thought a lot about censorship. sometimes people on this site try it with me: don’t write this, don’t be so nasty. some of it is intrinsic. we know as people with a uterus not to complain about “that time of the month”, we know better than to talk about sexual assault (how shameful), we know that talking about a vagina is somehow scandalous. i can say “dick” and nobody questions me. some people only refer to the bottom half of me by “pussy”. they won’t wrap a mouth around “vagina” like it’s poison to them. even discussing this, that the language halts, that there’s an intrinsic desire to say “girls” instead of “women” – feels naughty, illicit. not for children.

the other day someone suggested i make my blog 18+. i said, okay, it deals a lot with depression and other problems that might be for a mature audience. oh no, they said, that’s not it, i think that’s helpful. i said, okay. so what is it then. well, you’re gay. you write about loving women. and i said, i don’t write about sex often and they said. it’s not about the sex. but wlw isn’t for a general audience. teenagers aren’t ready.

oh.

lolita is recommended for high school and up. i think about that a lot. i know girls who love it, who say it speaks to them on a deep level. it’s beautiful prose, after all. that was the whole point of the novel. something that looked like a rose but was intrinsically awful. i think about how if i was a model they’d want me to look young, thin, prepubescent. how my body would be sold and how through the mall i walk by images of barely-clothed women while mothers cannot breastfeed in public without fear of retribution.

i think about how i can write a novel about violence and it will be pg-13 but if my characters say “fuck” twice it’s inappropriate. i said fuck three times so far in this post, which makes it only appropriate for adults.

i think about that, and how my identity is something that people suggest lines up with a swear word. that people shouldn’t talk about it. that it’s a vulgarity. bad for children, harsh, confusing.

fuck. i love women. which one makes this only for those over eighteen.

This is such a powerful post. Read it fully, and spread it around.

A bakery is facing legal action because it refused to write anti-gay comments on a cake for a customer

The customer bringing the claim against Azucar Bakery in Denver, Colorado, says he was the victim of ‘religious discrimination’ because they wouldn’t adorn cakes with the words ‘God hates gays’, and draw a picture of two men holding hands with a red cross above it.

Owner Marjorie Silva called the requests of Bill Jack ‘discriminatory and hateful’ and refused to decorate the cakes, saying: ‘We never refuse service. We did feel that it was not right for us to write hateful words or pictures against human beings.’

She did, however, offer to make Mr Jack the cakes and sell him some icing so her could decorate them himself.

Mr Jack was not satisfied with this response, telling a local news station he was being ‘discriminated against by the bakery based on my creed’.

He has filed a complaint with the Department of Regulatory Agencies, which have now placed the bakery under investigation, and could refer the complaint to the Colorado Civil Rights Commission if they feel that Mr Jack was being discriminated against.

Mr Jack is the head of the Worldview Academy, an organisation that exists to help people ‘think and live in accord with a Biblical worldview’.

Since the incident Ms Silva has received praise and support from people throughout the world who have contacted her via email.

Guys please spread this, I live here and I love this cake shop so much and would hate to see it get closed for something like this. The cakes there are absolutely phenomenal, and they even have gay and lesbian wedding cake toppers, and is the only cake store that has those in all of Denver, Golden, and Lakewood. Please don’t let this cake shop close.

Friendly Christian Reminder:

Saying “God Hates” is a violation of most of the New Testament. See also John 3:16-17, for starters. Numerous mentions of “God is love”.

Saying that you are without sin is a bold-faced lie; see Psalm 130 and Romans 3:20.

Passing judgement onto another person is a no-no; see Mathew 7:1-5.

Loving thy neighbor is one of the two most important commandments; Mark 12:31.

And that your ‘neighbor’ isn’t always another Christian; see Luke 10:25-37.

In short, stop using my religion to justify you being an ass-hat, Ass-hat.

Quick heads up to other partnered Youtube creators and anyone who follows my content.

https://www.forbes.com/sites/meganhills1/2018/06/04/youtube-anti-lgbt-ads/#701ae1fe4f73

TDLR: It appears that youtube is running anti-LGBT+ videos as ads before LGBT+ content. One of the people doing this claims it was unintentional but it doesn’t make him less of an asshole. Basically they tagged it as LGBT+ because they are old and dumb. The tagging system is suppose to be used for advertisers to target specific types of videos IE you watch gaming content so here is an ad for a PS4. But it can be abused apparently. So now what?

You don’t have to demonotize your entire channel if you want to stop these ads.

Youtube is really shit at giving partners info so I thought I’d help you out with a image. If you want to block specific ads on your content (as in they will not run on your content and you will not make money from hate speech) then log into your adsense account

follow these steps.

1. Click “allow & block ads”

2. Click “content host”

3. Click “All my sites”

4. Put the names of any of the associated websites

5. click the block URLs button and you are done in 24 hours the ads will stop appearing on your channel.

In step 4 you might notice that you will need the specific ad urls which Youtube won’t give you so you are gonna have to rely on going and finding them yourself. Remember that it is against youtube adsense policy to specifically load ads on your own videos so you are gonna have to look at other channels (or just use the 3 I blocked in the image).

This is the part where I need to apologize. If you have ever seen that kinda shit before one of my videos I am very sorry. It is not my intent or my aim to make money from hate speech. As far as I can tell I don’t think my channel ran any of these since my content is gaming and art related (so the ads are all lessons on how to learn to draw or up coming games) but I’m taking this precaution on the off chance that I am wrong. If however you do see an ad for this kind of bullshit run on one of my videos please let me know in a DM and I will add it to my list. Assuming Youtube works as intended (which is assuming a lot really) it will not show again.

If you are not a creator and want to help:

1. please link this to creators that you watch so it doesn’t show up on their stuff (this apparently is more important for LGBT+ creators to do for the above given reasons)

2. Let me know if you see these kinds of ads on my videos or anyone else’s so I can black list the ads. A screen shot of the ad itself is super helpful in finding the source without clicking the links. Send screenshots like that via the submission feature here on tumblr.

3. Tell Youtube that you aren’t ok with this kind of behavior directly. Message @teamyoutube or @youtube on twitter and be as calm and professional as you can be while telling them to stop being such dickheads. Youtube generally only reacts to major public outcry or if the advertisers get scared.

he supported abortion and illegal immigration AND gun control until he suddenly ran for president and wanted to appeal to rational thinking people which is why he pretends to be a right winged smart person because hes a liberal in disguise tbh so ye fuck him

actually it’s because the right wing offers him more money [because they are more careless with their money/have to reinforce their ideas somehow: the NRA for example] and because he can get support by shock value, but go off, support a racist/sexist/homophobe/transphobe. saying that people who support and adore trump are rational though is embarassing and sad for multiple reasons, but mostly because you’re implying that racists/sexists/homophobes/transphobes are okay and fair in their discrimination

trump isnt-

and im literally-

GAHHHH-

AND HE ISNT EVEN HOMOPHOBIC!!! HES THE FIRST FUCKING PRESIDENT TO SUPPORT GAY MARRIAGE GOING INTO OFFICE ALTHOUGH HE DOESNT CONDONE IT FOR RELIGIOUS REASONS HE STILL PUTS IT ASIDE FOR PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO MARRY WHO THEY WANT BUT

AND HIS POLICIES ON IMMIGRATION ARENT RACIALLY MOTIVATED ITS FOR ECONOMIC REASONS

AND HE SUPPORTS TRANS

ok the sexism i can kinda see in him but still

but yeah sure im a gay guy who supports homophobia because i support free thinking and religious freedom

homophobia/transphobia:

racism:

you don’t even need articles about his sexism and sexual harassment because he’s been 100% open and bragging about it (but for example, “grab her by the pussy” and Stormy)

you can like Trump, but saying he isn’t racist/sexist/homophobic/transphobic is blatantly foolish and willingly turning a blind eye

(also, I’m pretty sure Obama supported the LGBT community during his presidency. He might not have been the first president ever to do it, but he certainly did it before–and better than–Trump. here’s what he did.)

ANYWAY. SIDENOTE but not really…where did you or I say anything regarding free thinking and religious freedom? you previously said “rational thinking” in reference to Trump supporters–not FREE. there is a fine difference between rational thinking and free thinking. trump supporters can think freely, but just because it’s independent thought doesn’t mean it’s rational.

that still doesn’t explain where the religious freedom bit came from though, as it wasn’t mentioned in your first comment. if you’re implying I’m against either, you probably a) don’t have a proper understanding of what “free thinking” (again, free thinking is not equivalent to rational thinking) or “religious freedom” is, or b) you don’t know my beliefs and haven’t cared to ask because you’d rather attack me in your ignorance. (additionally, if you’re going to support free thought, support it in everyone rather than just in ways in benefits you and your side. that prevents it from looking hypocritical.)

p.s. supporting free thought and religious freedom doesn’t mean you’re homophobic?? it’s the fact that you’re supporting a person–more importantly, defending a person–who is homophobic that, in turn, means you support homophobia in some form.

slightlydoubtful:

The fact that it’s illegal to be gay in 75 countries and that homosexuality is punishable by death in 10 countries and you can be refused service because of your homosexuality and you still can’t get gay married everywhere people still have the audacity to talk about straight pride as if straight people face any of the same kind of discrimination that LGBT people do and it just makes me SO ANGRY
