No one asked for this, but judging by the notes on the lightened cap I posted earlier people really like the effect and think it’s some kind of editing witchcraft. So I threw this together to show that it’s actually really simple.

tl;dr use the white eye dropper on the RGB levels to set the whitest point and the black eye dropper to set the blackest point. instant contrast-fix.

Late last year I wanted to start a series of short tutorials called Tip Jar, as a way of saying thanks to my fans and giving back to my patrons. This is the first of the series I have made, showing my technique on quickly filling in lineart so you can get to painting without coloring outside the lines faster.

Someday I hope to turn these into video tutorials when I have the income and the time, but for now I hope that I will be able to share useful tips in this infographic format.

This is exactly how I do my flats.

This is how I do my flats! Really quick and easy!

Worth sharing because this is exaaaaactly how I do my flats!  I get this question all the time when I post my process videos, and this explains it far more succinctly than I ever could. 🙂

M-most people don’t t-talk like th-this when they st-stutter from n-nerves.

It’s more…it’s more like going back and…and starting over. Maybe repeating some, some words.

Bonus tip: this is ESPECIALLY true in thoughts. Thoughts are a lot more fluid than speech because there’s no physical barrier to get past when they form into words.

I’ve never realized how true this is. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

yup

Uh, also, they might, like, use filler words, possibly. Or maybe, like, phrase things as questions instead of, um, sentences? I don’t know, I just, um, sorta know what it sounds like, kinda?

How to Draw : Hairstyles Pt. 2

Finally sat down and completed part 2 of the hair tutorial. Here I discuss how to draw hairstyles for female characters, although I think it can be applied for male characters as well. I mean..hair is hair xD

I didn’t cover how to draw hairstyles that are tied or braided or styled in a special way as I thought the post would be way too long. So I’ll be saving that for another day. If you have any questions just drop me a message or leave a reply and I’ll do my best to get back to you. Hope everyone has fun learning to draw hair as much as I did putting this together 😀

And I just want to say a big thank you to all of those who checked out part 1. I’ll leave a link in case anyone needs it

i just want to say, for people reblogging this, that this is called the “rule of thirds” and the tips i wrote here by no means are things that you HAVE to do! these are just tips i use for myself, i kind of made up the bubble rule and i dont even know if im using the rule right haha so there theres that! i just like to use it so i know my bubbles have a place to go

imageimage

examples of me using rule of thirds to separate elements in “Rachael and Penny”

i got the information a long time ago from a thread on penciljack called Storytelling 101, specifically this image

there is tons of information on rule of thirds available, i know eyecager has a post that dips into it ….

This is also hella useful for photography composition, especially for landscape and architecture shots

@meirupo This is useful.

TRYING TO COME UP WITH NAMES FOR MY FANTASY CHARACTERS

brynprocrastinates:

my-dearest-one-my-darling-dear:

thedosian-cabbage:

howdoiputthisgeekily:

Tips:

a) pick a name, any name

b) let’s go with Kevin

c) fuck up a letter, preferably a vowel

– kevan

– kyvin

– kovon

– kevell

– kivoth

d) congratz u have a name

e) he might be called Tim but that might be short for something

– Timmos

– Timotheus

– Timiron (yeah just add “Ron” when in doubt)

– Tiroth

– Timarimos

Congratulations your Tim both has a cute nickname and a full name that sounds vaguely badass, or if not badass long-winded and unnecessary enough to be a Fantasy Name™.

Also try to make the syllables sound like their personality. A suave and socially smooth character could maybe not have any hard ‘r’ or ‘br’ or ‘tr’ in their names. Etc.

Saving for future reference and because of the glorious Monty python gif

This is really nice because you get interesting names WITHOUT making them ten syllables long and entire unpronounceable.
