Women Self Defense in 1947

I’m not sure what’s the best part of this video: the fact that she’s in heels, the fact that she does the whole thing looking like she don’t give a fuck, that chick in the back just exercising and enjoying the show, or the fact that both men and women are observing this and the girls are laughing and the guys look concerned/pensive as fuck as they watch all their tactics get shut down like nothing is even happening.

… msties is it just me or is this familiar?

Some of these are moves I haven’t seen before.

Some of this looks similar to the self defense I learned in a course three or four years ago. It’s definitely got some judo in it (arm bars, throws, fighting to and from the ground).

I love this lady. She is rad. I feel like she, much like the rad lady I had as my self defense teacher, would also warn the women that if they don’t think they can gouge out someone’s eyes, don’t start trying because you’ll attack better with something you can follow through on.

crimelords I’m sorry I couldn’t not reblog this for you

Please reblog if you know anyone who might take party drugs.

this is so important

Also important information: A cop cannot arrest you for something you already took. You can tell a cop to his face that you just injected black tar heroin in your veins and as long as you don’t currently have any on you (including things like syringes or residue in a pipe), there’s fuck all he can do about it.

I take police reports for a living. The number of people who will happily tell someone “Well officer, this fight started because I smoked crack cocaine earlier,” is astounding and also not at all illegal. The criminal charge is for Possession of a Controlled Substance. If you don’t possess any at the time, there’s no crime. The only thing you can get dinged for is if you’re actively on a drug and driving, in which case – DUI.

Please, please, please tell EMTs what you took. They’re not going to rat you out to the cops and even if they did, you will still be okay.

Spreading the word, being honest with paramedics and doctors can save your life

I dont do drugs at all. But just in case someone needs this!

1. Fist: Make a fist around the epi-pen, don’t place your thumb/fingers over either end

2. Flick the blue cap off

3. Fire. Press down into the outer thigh (the big muscle in there), hold for 10 seconds before removing (the orange cap will cover the needle). Bare skin is best but the epi-pen will go through clothing. Avoid pockets and seams.

– Ring an ambulance even if everything seems to be fine!

Oh my god.
So as someone who has to carry an epipen EVERYWHERE I am so happy to see that there’s an info post about them.
Like in the extreme case that I can’t inject myself, somebody else would have to do it, but nobody knows how to do it! Thank you, this may just save my life some day.

Don’t be wimpy about it, either. I know friends who are like, “but idk if I could stab you with a needle!” Please stab me with the needle, don’t be hesitant about it.

In my case (I can’t speak for all allergies), an epi buys me 20 minutes of breathing to get to the hospital. It is not a magic bullet, it’s a few critical minutes to help get me where I need to go.

For those who don’t know, people with serious food allergies carry epinephrine which is an adrenaline shot just in case they have anaphylaxis, which is a life threatening allergic attack. This shot is life-saving and must be administered to someone who is having an anaphylactic attack as SOON AS POSSIBLE, because an extra waited minute could mean their life.

It doesn’t hurt much at all to use this needle. The first time I used mine, I didn’t even feel it. But be sure to stab it IN THE OUTER THIGH. Do not stick it anywhere else or you could seriously hurt or kill someone. Just right to the outside of the thigh and then call the ambulance – even if your friend starts doing better, they could have a biphasic reaction, meaning a reaction that comes back (or they may need a second dose, be on the look out). If your friend has an epipen, then they have an epipen trainer that doesn’t have a needle and you can try it out just to be sure you know how to use the real thing if you have to. I’d also advise holding it a few more seconds then 10, maybe go for 14 just to be sure all the medicine is administered and that you didn’t count too fast – that’s what I did.

Here’s a graphic of where to stick it:

image

THANK YOU FOR THE GRAPHIC I was about to ask because my mom carries one around and so do some of my friends and I wanted to make sure I would do it right if I ever needed to!

Learn about this or get a refresher, if you’re not already familiar.

Also, once you’ve pulled the needle out after 10 seconds, massage the area to help the medicine disperse

Save a life

Totes good data.

The part of this I don’t like is “they will most likely move on to an easier target.” Like I’m supposed to feel fine about someone else with a less sturdy door getting ripped off?

Change your neighbor’s screws too

Channel your inner dad

Chage everyone’s screws

Mythbusters did this but not exactly on purpose, they put together a door to test how to kick it down and didn’t have the right sized screws so they used the longer ones and even Jamie running at speed had trouble breaking the door with the longer screws

Not only will longer screws keep you safer, they also prevent your door from sagging over time, which leads to scraping or your door not closing properly.

✍🏽✍🏽✍🏽

make sure you install longer screws on the hinges too. contractors often cut corners by using whatever they have lying around and s door can be kicked off from the hinge side too. this is especially important with older homes and apartments. depending on the maintenance standards (if there are any), a door that has been repaired or replaced could have mismatched screws.

Just a random note.

my dad told us this if someone shoots up our school

SUPER IMPORTANT

BEST TIP

PLEASE REMEMBER THIS

not even a joke we learned this in Police Explorers and put it on your clothing as well but go quickly because you don’t know where the person is.

This is what school children in America are taught.
That is so wrong on so many fucking levels and there are still people who believe gun control in any form is a bad thing.

let me reiterate
SCHOOL CHILDREN IN A SUPPOSEDLY FIRST WORLD COUNTRY ARE TAUGHT THE SAME THINGS AS PEOPLE IN ACTIVE WAR ZONES BECAUSE THE THREAT OF BEING KILLED IN A SHOOTING IS SO HIGH.

the bit in caps here is making me rethink my stance on gun control

shit

I’m reblogging this because as my follower count goes up, the odds of this saving a life do too.

My elementary school had drills telling us what to do in such an emergency. This is exactly what they told us. AND NOW FOR A FACT: IN CALIFORNIA YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REGISTER A SHOTGUN!

I live in America, and I was only taught to hide and be quiet. I had to learn this on Tumblr. If one more person says that technology is ruining children, they best shut the hell up because this could be saving lives

OK Highway Patrol Captain George Brown says the best “tip” for women to not get raped by a cop is to “follow the law in the first place so you don’t get pulled over.”
http://youtu.be/BO8g8akPWcY (Last third of the video).

Three serial rapists in 3 weeks arrested in Oklahoma, all cops.

Follow for Anarchy | Follow for Feminism

Pro tip: if you’re signaled to pull over (whether you’re male or female) and you’re in a place that has no witnesses, turn your hazard lights on to acknowledge the officer’s siren, and drive to the nearest gas station or populated area. This is accepted protocol by every agency. You are not obligated pull over until you can do so safely. This includes personal safety. Understand your rights, brothers and sisters. There are disgusting examples of authority in this world.

HAZARD LIGHTS ARE NOT AN ACCEPTABLE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT. IT IS NOT ACCEPTED PROTOCOL BY EVERY AGENCY. DO NOT JUST CONTINUE DRIVING WITH YOUR HAZARD LIGHTS IN CASE THE COP MIGHT THINK IT’S A LOW-SPEED CHASE.

I know that sounds dumb, but hear me out. My mother is a dispatcher for the local police station. I asked her about how to pull over for a cop and even brought up the use of hazard lights, and she told me that it is not always accepted. This is what she told me you can do in order to feel safe when pulling over:

Call the police. No, really. Call and tell the dispatcher where you are and that there is a cop behind you demanding you pull over. The dispatcher can and will stay on the line with you while they look up the area you’re in to see if it’s one of their station’s cops. Then, once the cop comes to your window, you can crack it open (it only has to be an inch!) while still on the phone with the dispatcher. This is definitely, 100% accepted protocol.

The dispatcher will verify that it is their own, real cop, and they will gladly stay on the line with you throughout your interaction with the officer. And God forbid this ever happens to any of you, but if something were to happen to you during this time, you’ve already contacted 911 and given your location to the dispatcher.

Please keep this in mind if you are ever requested to pull over and do not feel safe. The dispatcher will understand. Do not, however, continue to drive, because there might be the off-chance an officer will think you’re flat-out refusing to pull over (a well-lit, populated area might be a ways away).

Stay safe.

Signal boost.

Because I personally know some creepy ass mother fuckers who became cops because they’re demented psychopaths and they get off on having control over people.

In light of current bullshit, this might be a good idea for a LOT of people, not just women. Marginalized minorities of all stripes, take note. I hate taking up an emergency dispatcher’s resources, but i also hate seeing yet another fucked up news story about police harming citizens.

REBLOG ESPECIALLY MY DMV FOLLOWERS

I keep seeing shit about folks getting kidnapped and shit in the dmv

That’s wild

what the fuck?? how did you know this was a sex trafficking tactic?? I would have let her in my car jesus… how do you avoid this??

@loving-women-is-rad I can explain why this is obvious.

it’s the fact that she wanted to go into her isolated car instead of into the public building. going to her car gets her alone, where as going inside the well lit building with other people gets her around people who could protect both of them from the people she’s claiming are after her.

any actual victim will go straight for a well populated area. they may want you  to come with them for help, but they would never try and get you away from a populated area and into an isolated car unless the car was the only option, because a dark car late at night is a fantastic way to isolate and capture a mark without anyone’s notice.

other tactics often used include:

1) pretending to be a heavily pregnant woman stuck out in bad weather she’s not dressed for and asking a good samaritan who asked her if she’s ok to buy her some coffee. if the woman refuses money and wants you to go with her specifically, becoming agitated when you don’t agree and only offer her cash, this is a trick. the person who found this out managed to follow a woman doing this and saw her arguing with another woman and two men. the men insisted she needed to be more convincing so people would be more sympathetic, and she watched her tell him to be the one out in the snow in the thin hoodie and fake belly, and she watched her take off a fake baby bump.

(someone taking the money can still be a scam, but it’s a scam for money, and not to traffic you. traffickers want to get you to leave a populated area, so refusing to go with them will upset them, and that’s the biggest reveal of their true intentions.)

2) a woman banging on your door screaming that a man is chasing her and begging you to let her in, saying he’s going to rape her if you don’t let her in. this was brought to everyone’s attention by a teenager who shared his story about it. his mother wanted to help her, but her husband had grown up in a ‘bad part of town’ and wasn’t so trusting. he unlocked the door but not the chain lock and handed her a brick, telling her his family was calling the police and he would stay with her at the door. if the person did show up she could use the brick to defend herself and he would come out with his..I think it  was a baseball bat and help her fight him off. she became very angry, asking what was wrong with them and demanding they let her in. his only response was to close and lock the door again. she got quiet and when the police got there, she was gone but the brick was just sitting on one of their steps.

the next night the police were back, as the woman showed up again at someone else’s doorstep doing the exact same thing, only this time an officer was basically already there. that family had let her in, and she in turn let her partner in who proceeded to murder the entire family before being caught by the officer.

3) similarly, men have been known to use a recording of a baby crying playing at womens’ doorsteps in order to entice them into opening the door, this giveaway being that A) it’s recorded and that’s usually fairly obvious, but also that after a little while, the sound will move, typically under windows around the front of the house, something an actual baby clearly can’t do on its own, and is clearly someone attempting to get closer to the presumed sleeping women in the hopes of getting her attention, since she seemingly can’t hear it from the front door.

this was caught when a woman noticed this ‘baby’ moving and the cry looping and called the police. again an officer was nearby and found two men hiding in bushes around her house.

4)more of an example of something very common, a young woman shared a story of when she was little many years ago. she and a friend were going to some sort of event (she was into something. she was ether part of a sports team or dance team or something to that affect, something done by her school as she was around 6-7 at the time) her mother stopped off at a grocery store real quick and left her and her sleeping friend in the car. another little girl looking to be about 4 was in a car nearby with what this girl assumed was his father. he too got out of the car and left her there, going into the store. the girl was all smiles with him, even waving to our storyteller and smiling, until the man left. once he was inside suddenly she looked scared, and was acting like she wanted her to get out of the car and come to her. she tried waking her sleeping friend to tell her about this, thinking now the man wasn’t her father but someone who was a danger to her, but her friend gave her the dirtiest look, demanded she shut up and let her sleep, and rolled over. she looked back up at the 4 year old who was now looking at the store. she too looked over and saw the man just standing right at the window smiling and encouraging her. she smiled at him and then looked back to our storyteller, with her face instantly dropping back into that scared look on her face. she refused to get out of her car, and when the  4 year old looked back at the store, the man came back out, without having bought anything, gave the girl a smile and a pat and driving off, with the little girl waving at her as he drove away. after seeing this, she was convinced he was coaching her and using her to lure other children out to abduct them.

5)another example of something very common, a woman who was moving to another state and was by herself, as her fiance had gone ahead a month earlier to get things set up in the new place while she tied up the loose ends at the old one. on her way back to her car, she was stopped by a man in his truck, his passenger side between them, and asked her if she knew where a grocery store was. she said she didn’t know, as she was just stopping through on her way to a new place. he then said something along the lines that this was a nice place to stop on a trip with the family, and she admitted she was alone. it was then when he said it was nice to meet her and reached out his hand to shake hers, but did nothing to lean out, meaning she would have to reach in the car to reach him. it was here where she realized his questions confirmed that she was alone, far from home, and unfamiliar with the area, meaning if she vanished no one would know when she vanished or where on her long trip alone, and it would be a good while before anyone expected to see her, meaning by the time anyone realized she was gone she’d be long gone.

she refused to shake his hand, stating that she was going to go, and he sped off, far too fast for her to read the license plate.

the one thing all these stories have in common, the thing that’s kept people alive, was their refusal to give in to social expectations and protecting themselves as well as the person supposedly in need. by refusing to get into her car, the op story woman saved herself from being abducted and trafficked, as did my last story’s woman, by refusing to be polite and shaking the stranger’s hand.

Op’s woman still attempted to help her, so you absolutely can still help someone in need, but you have to do so safely and logically, without putting yourself at risk, which is exactly what these people need you to do. while it’s true a real potential victim could be screaming at your door for help or a real baby left on your doorstep that’s crying, you still have to be cautious because traffickers have no morals. there is no low they won’t stoop to if it means catching another person.

I know it can be hard to believe a woman would do something like this to other women, and not using such chances to get away themselves, but that’s what brainwashing, Stockholm syndrome, and abusive manipulation will do to someone’s mind. we all want to trust other women and believe in that solidarity against our mutual oppression, but it doesn’t always work out like that. girl code and solidarity is important, but we also have to watch our for ourselves, because not everyone cares about that code.

HPV

Herpes

Just incase you didn’t know because most don’t 🗣

This. This. This. Omfg this.

lol I made this post months ago
Funny how since Usher and his herpes comes to the light that’s when Majority of y’all started caring 🤦🏾‍♀️

To add onto this…. info from someone who screens for STDs:
1. Condoms protect against fluid
2. Anything skin to skin can be contracted
3. A new form of Gonorhea has developed that is resistant to antibiotics
4. If you have unprotected sex and get BV or a yeast infection it is because your vaginal pH does not mix well with the pH of his semen
5. That means you can get HIV
6. MORE THAN HALF OF THE POPULATION HAS HERPES
7. Type 1 is usually oral (cold sores) Type 2 is genital
8. You can give someone genital herpes if you have a cold sore and give them head
9. You can give someone cold sores if have genital herpes and receive head
10. Herpes lies dormant for years sometimes so you could have gotten it 10 years ago and it just now pops up
11. Most screening sites will not test for it, unless asked, because it cause problems within a relationship
12. Untreated chlamidiya (👈🏽 I’m trying) can make you infertile

You gave the most informative add on thank you
Idk wth everyone else is talking about

Reblogging this again for the “I hate condom dudes”

Two ways to protect yourself:

  • Get the vaccination for HPV. It’s not just for cis women! HPV is nasty and causes cancer.
  • Don’t be afraid to have a little light in the room to start out with, even if you later turn it off, to check things out with a new partner or hookup. Herpes is most contagious when there are blisters present.

Also, if you find out you have an STD, the etiquette is to tell all new partners until you’re cured or firmly undetectable and let all previous ones you may have infected know.

Please don’t be afraid to get thoroughly tested! An STD isn’t the end of the world, especially if you catch and treat it early.

More about HPV:

When people hear HPV, they think cervical cancer and genital warts. You can have HPV without visible warts. Also, if you are infected with HPV, times of increased stress and low immunity can cause warts and leisons to appear where there weren’t any.

Furthermore, we have screening tools for HPV and cervical cancer in women. It’s called a Pap smear. It’s not just some uncomfortable screening your provider does for funsies. Follow the recommendations and get your pap on time. Women ages 21-35 are at the greatest risk of HPV infection.

Additionally, GET THE HPV VACCINE whether you are a man or woman. Even if you are past the recommended age and you have had HPV before, you can protect yourself from infection from other strains. While the link between cervical cancer and HPV in women is well known, the people most likely to die of HPV infection are men. Throat and rectal-anal cancer from HPV infection is on the rise, and men(straight or gay or bi) are the most likely to be infected and go undetected, since there are little to no screening tools developed for men. It’s not just promiscuous people who get infected with HPV. Men in long-term committed relationships are contracting it through anal or oral sex with a partner who has been infected with HPV from previous sexual encounters. I can’t stress this enough: HPV IS FAR MORE DEADLY IN MEN SIMPLY BECAUSE IS VIRTUALLY NO SCREENING TOOL FOR IT. The best thing men can do is protect themselves before they contract it by getting the vaccine.

And finally: if you are a man and you notice and abnormal lump or knot or tingling or ANYTHING in your throat or your anal-genital region, do not hesitate getting that examined by a medical professional! As a medical professional, I can promise you it’s not nearly as embarrassing as you are making it out to be in your head. It is statistically proven that men are less likely to use primary care and preventive mecidince and screenings by a WIDE margin and therefore more likely to suffer fatal infections and cancers. Don’t be another statistic. Take care of yourself. Take HPV seriously, because it is. It can kill you and you’ll never see it coming.

I’ve reblogged this before but I’ll reblog it again because being safe during sex is important, not being careful COULD LITERALLY KILL YOU. This isn’t to scare people off sex. Sex is great, just be safe
