gloomy-optimist:

It’s interesting hearing ppl be anti-ace in pride month bc I think a lot of people think about ace spectrum as just, not being interested, and that it therefore affects your life to the same degree as not being interested in like, horror movies or a new AAA game might. That it’s a simple “opt-out” of any sort of sexual experience or identity altogether, rather than another set of complex interactions with a highly regimented, scripted societal concept of “normal,” e.g. hetero nuclear family with clear gender roles

You’d think for a community that focuses so much on the topic of representation in media, it would be a little more obvious that like…in almost every story, romantic/sexual love comes up as a theme or sideplot, and in many of them, it’s presented as a critically important key to happiness or success. As a culture, we recognize that anytime a character is in the same room as another character with the chance for there to be sexual tension, then that sexual tension p much automatically exists by default (assumed straight, but if the character’s label is revealed as gay,etc., follows accordingly). When the lead guy meets a woman with more than a few speaking lines and a meaningful interaction, they are a Romantic Sideplot, to the point where a lot of romantic writing is frankly lazy or forced-feeling simply bc it relies on ppl expecting it as default.

And the thing is, that sort of interaction follows you in real life in a lot of ways. It often feels like meeting people starts with the benchline of “am I or can I become sexually/romantically interested in you?” before moving down the lines of other ways to relate. And while I personally never really fell in the “I’m broken, I need fixed” mentality regarding my sexuality (demi-, to be clear), I have felt alienated or kept at a distance in the process of trying to disengage with this unspoken norm, to the point of it kind of becoming my default. As I’ve gotten older, it’s gotten more pressing, and it feels like many spaces for adults come with the caveat of being related to potential sexual/romantic availability

And it’s hard coming to terms with the fact that the world has designated the “most important relationship” as something that’s counter to you in some essential way. Like it’s a bit of a cruel realization to recognize that you’re probably always going to be playing second fiddle or be a step down in status to the people you view as most important to you because your relationship with them is not sexual or romantic. Being ace-spectrum is not opting-out of wanting meaningful relationships, but it sometimes comes with the resignation that you may have to accept that.

But that’s why representation and community matter. There’s a lot more discussion about things like queerplatonic relationships, about very meaningful but non-sexual ways of relating to others, and it’s awesome to see it come up in media, even if it’s just fanfiction. The notion that something like love, or more specifically, devotion, loyalty, commitment, accountability, compassion, or the act of cherishing/being cherished, can still exist for you outside of the realm of romantic or sexual situations, is something I think everyone deserves to see and understand. And I think that’s worth including in the discussion alongside other LGBTQ+ topics

There are more than just two genders.  There are more than just two sexual orientations.  It is time people respected that and educated themselves on the differences.  If someone comes to you and tells you they identify as x y or z and you don’t know what it is look it up.  Educated yourself.  Respect the persons identity.

I will help you out.

Here are some of the common genders and sexual orientations.

Gender

 Agender: A person with very little or no connection to a traditional gender.  also gender neutrois, genderless, gender neutral

Bigender: A person who identifies as two genders

Cisgender: A person whose gender identity matches their biological sex assigned at birth

Demigender: Has a partial connection to a certain gender (Demiboy and demigirl)

Gender fluid: A person whose gender identity fluctuates between different genders.

Multigender: A person who identifies as multiple genders

Non binary:  A person who does not identify as simply male or female, can fluctuate between male and female or somewhere between. An umbrella term.

Polygender: Identifies with several genders at the same time, or at different times

Transgender: A person whose gender identity is different than the biological sex assigned at birth.

Trigender:  A person who identifies as three genders

Sexual orientations:

Aromantic (Aro): Person who does not feel romantic attraction to any gender.

Asexual (Ace):  Person who does not feel sexual attraction to any gender.

Androsexual:  Attracted to masculinity

Bisexual (Bi): Attracted to people of their same gender and a different gender.

Demiromantic: People who do not feel romantic attraction until an emotional connection is formed.

Demisexual (Demi): Person who does not feel sexual attraction to others unless they are emotionally connected.

Straight: A person attracted to the opposite gender in a gender binary.  (male attracted to females, female attracted to males)

Gay/lesbian: Attracted to the same gender

Gynesexual: Attracted to femininity

Pansexual (pan): Attracted to others regardless of their gender.

Polysexual: Attracted to multiple genders

Queer: Umbrella term.  Many queer-identified people believed gender is fluid and are attracted to others regardless of gender.

Skoliosexual: Attracted to non binary people

Note:  There are more identities, these are just the ones I know of.  If you identify as something I didn’t put on the list, feel free to add it.

Respect a person’s gender identity and sexual orientation.  If it is a term you are unfamiliar with, educated yourself and either ask the person or look it up.  Don’t mislabel people on purpose.

the “___ change my mind” guy sitting at a desk is Steven Crowder who is literally a deep conservative “comedian” and the biggest transphobe of 2018 so can we NOT use that meme anymore thanks. he literally calls trans people tr**** in some of his videos and refers to caitlyn jenner (I may not like her but Christ) as a transgender f@scist because she transitioned and refers to her transitioning as “going full #sjw.” this meme is cancelled and not funny. use google if you don’t believe me. bye

yeah actually i did some research (googling. i googled) and this is what the the original image was: (as opposed to what i first saw it as and what other might have, and had assumed that was the real one)

he does stuff like that a lot;

so yeah Yikes.

Shit, I just looked him up as well.

Fucking
YIKES, meme cancelled.

FYI. Don’t reblog or make any more memes from this guy. Fucking creep.

I’ve known this was Steven Crowder from the start and I’ve known who Steven Crowder is for probably more than 5 years, I thought most people knew who he was and just memed him anyways. First time I saw this meme I was sceptical and asked the person who reblogged it if they knew who it was, and they knew who it was. I don’t see this meme as a meme that celebrates Steven Crowder or gives him a platform. I always saw this meme as satire. He looks ridiculously smug and arrogant sitting in public, sipping coffee as he’s flagging a banner with the only intent to provoke people around him.

Furthermore some of the earliest forms of this meme are very clear about being satire, I checked the twitter users of the people who made them and they don’t seem to be on board with Steven Crowders politics.

This includes images like;

And this one;

It’s like when people was making a meme out of Richard Spencer, syncing him getting punched in the face to music and stuff.

At this point the meme has evolved further though, the most common version of this meme I’ve seen is “X is a precious baby, change my mind”, X being a character that OP loves ofc. Or some kind of variation of that, usually relating to fandom that reflects OPs opinion. I don’t think that as much means that the creators of these memes are saying that Crowders reasoning is correct because they’re using it the same way he does(when the sign reflects what the person who wrote the sign believes), it’s more like it delegitimizes his strategy and the power of this image because it’s been devalued from provocative political strategy to “i love pikachu bitch fukin fight me”.

On top of that, I wanna note that many people put their subjective views as the caption for these images and the reason why this meme is funny(at least to some) is because ‘change my mind’ is obviously not something they ever mean. It may SAY “change my mind”, but since when has OP ever meant that someone should attempt it, or even consider actually changing their minds? It’s because he doesn’t mean it when he wrote it in the first place and so in a sense these meme calls him out for being intelllectually dishonest and just another troll.

I don’t think this meme is cancelled. I don’t see the harm in spreading this image with different captions but I DO think people should know who this man is, I thought he was a bit more well known than that. But I think most of all, it’s important to point out, I’ve never ever really seen a rightwing version of this meme and I think it’s for all the reasons explained in this post, no rightwing person would spread a meme that makes Crowder look like a fucking clown(because he himself, from the start is making himself look like a fucking clown).

^^^^^^^

Why would you stop?

Meme even harder you cowards and deprive the original picture of any meaning.

I don’t get y’all. The way the meme is used goes against anything that asshole wants, so go fucking abuse photoshop.
