the whole “this is good for kids” thing doesn’t….really make sense. like if they wanted to protect minors then 1. making sure there was no CP on the site and 2. enforcing the explicit blog function correctly would be the top priority. The sex workers i know/have seen on this site make use of the explict blog function and repeatedly block/warn people under 18/21 not to interact with them or they’ll get blocked. the wording of the new rules is very obviously targeting sex workers and tumblr’s transphobic definition of women. This is just a heavy handed two sided slap to get back on the app store and hurt the sex workers that rely on this site even more. also i’m pretty sure removing nazi’s would fall under “protecting children” but…here we are!
Bruh, it’s not just sex workers or trans stuff.
Take it from fandom and older fans who’ve seen this shit before: this is just the first step in what will eventually be a much broader content purge. We’ve seen this before, some of us have seen it multiple times. Every time, “protecting the children” has been the excuse.
no one gives a fuck about your stupid ass fandom porn you old ass geek
Except you should!
Because tons of young artists rely on fandom art to make money! And the most lucrative commissions are, you guessed it, porn!
Tumblr has been great for artists who are trying to support themselves or just finding a way to make some “fun money.” Many, many college students use this site and commissions to make up the difference for what jobs and finacial aid don’t cover! I’ve literally seen people post “Commissions are half off so I can make my rent this month.”
The reblogging system is great for them because it gets their work out there. People put it on their blogs and then more people see it and the artist gets more traffic flowing to their blog. More traffic equals more commissions equals more money.
Artists are freaking out about this! They are about to lose an important source of income! They are about to lose a following that they have built up over years! People who have commissioned them multiple times and spread their work to other consumers. Finding a site that will give them the kind of exposure Tumblr does has been hard for them! And again a lot of them rely on this money! It’s reassuring to them there is a way they can make money fast.
Maybe it isn’t as serious as the effect it will have on sex workers but real people ARE going to be hurt by how much this changes fanart. Real people working jobs that pay them nowhere near enough to survive on and who are drowning in debt are about to lose something important!
I’m not even saying you should take the person who brought it up seriously. But please don’t throw young artists under the bus. Have some sympathy for what fandom restrictions will do to their lives. They are losing their emergency back-up funds for when they miss too much work or have an unexpected expense they wouldn’t be able to handle otherwise.
You don’t have to take fandom as a whole seriously and you don’t have to listen to the idiots who are just upset they can’t look at fandom porn anymore. But I ask that you please have some consideration for the struggling artists out there who are going to suffer.

PSA- I know “antis” can mean literally anything on this site (in the same way “normie” can– wildly depending on what subculture the post originated in and who they view as outside of it) but if there’s even a chance in hell a post that’s critical of “antis” is referring to “people who oppose child porn” then please please double check the source’s blog before reblogging to make sure you’re not boosting someone who is defending pedophilia.

As a society, we need to stop assuming that everyone enjoys drinking alcohol.
Lmao @ people who think I’m ridiculous for this post. I’m defensive because alcoholism is a huge issue. Everywhere in the world. Not to mention, I know it’s hard for some of you fucks to believe because of how widely accepted alcohol is, but there are a HUGE amount of people who have personal issues with alcohol. Either being recovering or previous alcoholics themselves, having a close personal tie with someone who abused alcohol, growing up in an unstable alcoholic household, having DEEPLY EMBEDDED family or spouse issues ALL because of alcohol. FUCK OFF with your me being so offended bullshit. Just assume people are sober till you find out on **their** terms they aren’t. Don’t expect that everyone likes to drink. Just like you wouldn’t expect that everyone likes to smoke cannabis, why would you do it with alcohol? (That’s rhetorical, it’s obviously because basically everyone assumes the entire world enjoys drinking). It’s not hard. Don’t offer people drinks unless you know they drink. BYE.
My favorite response when I tell people im straight edge is “what? You’ll never drink ever? Not one drink? I don’t believe you.”
And they’ll laugh
And I’ll look them straight in their fucking eye and tell them both my parents, and my aunt are recovering alcoholics. The rest of my family? Has never tried, nor ever got the chance to recover from their addiction. It’s by some miracle my mother is alive right now because she drank so much her liver stopped working. She was in a coma for two weeks. The doctors almost gave up on her.
My dad was an abusive drunk and then turned to hard drugs and that certainly didn’t help anything. My 3 younger sisters and I were almost put into foster care because of the both of them. I was only about 14 at the time. Making my youngest sister, 7. And because of all of this my family went bankrupt and we were almost homeless. All because of drinking 🙂That usually shuts them up real fucking fast but, I shouldn’t have to explain that to anyone. I shouldn’t have to defend my (perfectly healthy!) choices!
If someone tells you they don’t drink, it’s for a fucking reason. Don’t be a dick. Casual alcoholism is a huge fucking problem in the world and its scary that most people can’t see it.
Also, some people just… don’t like drinking. There are people out there who just genuinely do not enjoy drinking alcohol. They don’t like the taste, they don’t like being impaired, and they have no desire to try to force themselves into enjoying it just because someone else thinks it’s “weird”.
There are all kinds of reasons that someone might not choose to drink, and all of those reasons are valid. There’s nothing wrong with it, it doesn’t mean they “can’t have fun”, and I guarantee you they’re not judging you for drinking. And if they are? It’s definitely not as much as they’re being judged for not drinking.
Don’t try to force people to drink. Don’t assume everyone likes to drink. And if someone says they don’t drink? Don’t force them to explain why just to get you to stop hounding them.
There are plenty of reasons to avoid booze and the particulars of someone’s reasons are none of your business. Nobody deserves to catch crap because they don’t imbibe.
the culture of alcohol is disgusting and i want it to stop
The thing that bothers me about trans representation is that there are no “casual” trans people in the media. Every trans character is written into a trans story—centered on their transition, about transphobia, coming to terms with their identity and coming out, etc. And I love these stories, I do, because they show an aspect of my life that’s extremely important to me. But you never see trans characters in media that’s not about them being trans. You don’t see a casual romcom where one of the main couples is a trans couple, you don’t see a lesbian romance where one of the girls is trans, you don’t see an action adventure where the guy doing all the backflips and car chases is a trans guy. You don’t see trans actors playing characters that could be/were written cis. Cis people have all this dimension, whereas trans people are just trans. But we are so multi-faceted. We could be the superhero or the princess or the friend who always says the right things or the leader of a post-apocalyptic gang. Trans people are trans in everything we do, not just when we’re doing Trans Things™ and it’s time that we actually see that.
i think that… approximately 100% of the time, parents, teachers, etc… have this misconception that neurodivergent kids & teens don’t know anything about how to handle their neurodivergence.
for years, i suffered through people making suggestions of things that were things i had done, and either weren’t worth the effort or they actually made things worse. i told them this, and if i was still having any issues with the same problem they’d say something about “well if you’re not gonna listen to any suggestions…” when I did. they’re the one who didn’t listen when i told them that doesn’t work for me. They assume that because I didn’t try it in front of them (which is often impossible), I never tried it.
I tried doing my homework as soon as I got home. I tried doing my homework at the table, I tried working where I was comfortable. I tried listening to music, I tried working in silence. I tried using a planner, I tried setting reminders on my phone, I tried. I tell people that I have executive functioning issues and they say that I have to work on it like I haven’t been doing that as long as I’ve had to do things and it’s so much better than it was before. I’m as able as I am now because I’ve spent 18 years working on it.One of my friends has ADHD, and at one point when her grades dropped her parents took her phone, despite her telling them that the only way she can focus on her homework is to listen to music, for which she needs her phone.
I was in a study hall with another friend, who also has ADHD. Sometimes, they would be able to focus and do their work. Others, they would end up being entirely unable to and would do other stuff. The “instructional support” person would start bothering them about it, insist that they try. As if they hadn’t already done so.
I am tired of watching people assume that neurodivergent people aren’t trying, or we haven’t tried. We’re always trying.
I always find it kind of weird that matriarchal cultures in fiction are always “women fight and hunt, men stay home and care for the babies” because world-building-wise, it makes no sense
think about it. like, assuming that gender even works the same in this fantasy culture as it does in ours, with gender conflated with sex (because let’s be real, all of these stories assume that), men wouldn’t be the ones to make the babies, so why would they be the ones to care for the babies? why is fighting and hunting necessary for leadership?
writing a matriarchy this way is just lazy, because you’re just taking the patriarchy and just swapping the people in it, rather than actually swapping the culture. especially when there are so many other cool things you could explore. like, what if it’s not a swap of roles but of what society deems important?
maybe a matriarchy would have hunting and fighting be part of the man’s job, but undervalued. like taking the trash out or cleaning toilets: necessary, but gross, and not noble or interesting. maybe farming is now the most important thing, and is given a lot of spiritual and cultural weight.
how would law work? what crimes would exist, and what things would be considered too trivial to make illegal? who gets what property? why?
how would religion work? how would you mark time or the passage into adulthood? what would marriage look like? if bloodlines are through the mother, bastardy wouldn’t even be a concept – how does that work?
what qualities would be most important in a person? how would you define strength or leadership? what knowledge would be the most coveted and protected? what acts or roles are considered useless or degrading?
like, you can’t just take our current society and say you’re turning it on its head when you’re just regurgitating it wholesale. you have to really think about why things are the way they are and change that.
This is the world building I live for
Friendly reminder
“In a healthy relationship, your partner hears you out if you’re upset, and their goal is to avoid upsetting you in the future, not to debate whether you should have been upset in the first place.”
fuck.
i feel like people really don’t appreciate the full extent of how dangerous the pro-life movement really is. Like go look at the wikipedia page for anti-abortion violence, they’re not above just straight-up murdering people in broad daylight, in their homes, in their churches in front of their families. They’re not above bombings.
Where I used to live, Pensacola, Florida, the only clinic in town that provided abortion was bombed twice. A doctor who worked there was murdered, and the doctor who came in to replace him was murdered along with his armed bodyguard. The whole time this was going on, protesters were allowed to demonstrate outside the building this whole time. They were allowed to do this after two bombings, a break-in, and three murders in broad daylight. In other words, the city was pretty much complicit in it.
Bill O’Reilly railed against Dr. George Tiller on 28 different episodes of his show, calling him a baby murderer on national television until a pro-lifer murdered Dr. Tiller while he was at fucking church. The killer went to prison, but Bill O’Reilly was so obviously guilty of incitement but nothing happened.
These people view abortion as literally equal to infanticide and I do believe that 99% of pro-lifers, in one way or another, whether they would say it in public or not, believe that murder is justified to prevent women from having access to abortions. 99% of them believe women should be punished for seeking or for having had abortions. The journalist Kevin D. Williamson got fired from the New York Times for tweeting that women who’ve had abortions should be hanged, but really he’s just a rare example of a pro-lifer being completely honest about what he really believes.
Why treat the pro-life movement as any different from any fascists, neo-nazis, or reactionaries? Their goals, the vision of society they’re working towards building, and the means by which they plan to achieve it certainly aren’t very different!
i have no issue with atheism as a concept but if you mock people who rely on their god to help them get through hard times, you are trash and you are not nearly as intelligent as you think you are
